Dale E. Morey, Officer, EOW: 6/22/1973
During the evening shift at the Arizona State Prison maximum security Central Unit in Florence 37 year old Officer Dale Morey, who was also a U.S. Army veteran, was working as a floor Officer in Cell Block 2 which is the oldest cell block within the prison system. At 9 pm, inmates started a fire in one of the cells. Officer Morey responded to put out the fire but when he opened the cell door he was struck with a mop handle, stabbed repeatedly and his keys were taken.
Prior to working at the Central Unit and after serving his country in the military, he started his law enforcement career as a Police Officer and later promoted to Police Sergeant in Ohio.
